Music, Hilarity, Canned Meat Coming to HHS Stage

By Norah Kelley, ’24

The HHS Drama Department is excited to announce that this year’s main stage musical will be Spamalot, The Musical! Spamalot is a comedic show based on the 1975 movie Monty Python and The Holy Grail, which was adapted for Broadway in 2005. This show twists the legend of Camelot and King Arthur’s journey to find the Holy Grail, a mythical cup said to grant eternal life. Arthur looks for knights who can join him on his quest, and along the way, finds groups of hysterical characters. HHS drama and music teachers – Mr. Fahey, Mr. Wade, and Mr. Harden – are looking for talented vocalists, actors, dancers, and crew members to help make this show a success!

“We chose to do Spamalot this year for a few different reasons,” Mr. Fahey said. “Spamalot has a decent size cast with flexible casting opportunities, great opportunities for technical elements, and many hilarious characters which the audience may, or may not be, familiar with. We love Monty Python and we’re very excited to bring this wacky, fun show to life this year! “

Auditions for Spamalot, The Musical will be held November 16 from 3:30-6 pm in the HHS auditorium. Callbacks will be November 17, 3:30-6 pm. Rehearsals will be Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6-8 pm and will increase as the performance date nears. Mr. Fahey expects the show will be staged in February.

For any questions or for more information, please reach out to Mr. Faherty, Mr. Wade, or Mr. Harden.

  1. I thought that this article was very interesting because I didn’t really know what Spamalot was about even though I had heard about it before. I liked how the article gave a summary of what the musical is supposed to be about. Now that I have read this article, I would actually consider going to see the musical because it sounds like fun. I also liked how a quote from Mr. Fahey was included because I think that he has an opinion that can be trusted, so I believe that the musical will be good.

    1. I have heard of Spamalot, but I didn’t know what it was about until I read this article. I find it interesting that the play will be ready sometime in February because it shows that students can memorize all their lines in a short period of time which is impressive to me. This article is very informative about the auditions and casting, but it doesn’t spoil the play which I appreciate. I may consider going to this play because as Norah said, it is wacky and funny, and comedic plays are always fun to watch. One thing I wonder is why “spam” is in the name and what it has to do with the story.

  2. The title is what first caught my attention about this article. The juxtaposition between the well-known play Camelot and in this version Spam canned ham is very funny. I do not know much about theatre, but I would love to attend this play to experience a satirical version of one. I like the quote from Mr. Fahey to provide additional information about the play and why it was chosen for this year. The article provided the basic information about the play while also adding the essential dates and times for auditions if you wish to be a part of it, which I liked also.

I know a lot about theater and working as crew, and that making this thing won’t be easy to say the least. I like the quote from Mr. Fahey to provide why he had chosen Spamalot for this year. The quote given by Mr. Fahey helped to give extra information to the reader. The article makes the reader want to become a part of high school theatre again, whether that be as an audience member or even auditioning for a role.
